Budget Your Trip: How Much Is Snorkeling in Maui?

July 20, 2026

If you're planning a Maui trip, you've probably asked yourself how much is snorkeling in Maui going to cost you. It's a fair question, and the answer depends on the operator, the boat size, and what's included in your ticket.

At
Maui Reef Adventures, we keep our pricing simple and posted right on our site. No guessing, no hidden add-ons at checkout. Here's a full breakdown of what you'll pay for a snorkel tour with us, plus a few things worth knowing before you book with anyone on the island.

How Much Is Snorkeling in Maui? A Quick Price Overview

The short answer: our
Molokini Crater and Turtle Cove snorkel tour runs $175 per adult and $159 per child, ages 4 to 12, plus tax. That covers a full 4 hour trip, all your gear, and food for the morning.

If you just want to see whales without the snorkel portion, our VIP Whale Watch Adventure is $79 per person, plus tax. It's a separate, shorter trip built specifically around whale viewing.

Those two numbers answer the core question most visitors have. But the details behind them matter too, especially if you're comparing us against other Maui snorkel operators.

Molokini Crater and Turtle Cove Snorkel Tour Cost

Our flagship tour departs Ma'alaea Harbor at 8:00 AM and returns by noon. You'll check in at 7:30 AM at the Ferry Dock, board Reef Explorer, our custom built super raft, and head out to Molokini Crater and Turtle Cove.

At $175 for adults and $159 for kids, this tour covers the whole morning. You won't need to budget extra for gear rental or food once you're on the boat.

What's Included in the Snorkel Tour Price

Your ticket includes an experienced captain and crew, an onboard restroom, and all your snorkel gear. Breakfast is pastries, juice, and fresh fruit, and lunch is a turkey or vegetarian sandwich. Non-alcoholic beverages like bottled water, juice, and soda are included as well.

Whale Watching Add On and Seasonal Pricing

Here's something worth knowing if you're visiting between December 15 and April 15. Every snorkel trip we run during that window includes whale watching at no extra charge. You don't pay more for the chance to see humpback whales on your way to or from Molokini.

If whale watching is your main goal and you'd rather skip snorkeling altogether, book the standalone
VIP Whale Watch Adventure for $79 per person. It's a shorter trip, and it runs twice daily during season at 1:00 PM and 3:15 PM.

Either way, you're not stuck choosing between snorkeling and whale watching during winter months. You can often get both in a single outing.

Why Snorkel Prices Vary Between Maui Tour Operators

Not every Maui snorkel tour costs the same, and there are real reasons for that. Boat size plays a big role. Larger catamarans can carry more guests per trip, which sometimes brings the per person price down, but it also means more people sharing the same snorkel spot.

Trip length matters too. A 4 hour tour that includes two meals will usually cost more than a quick 90 minute outing. And destination access changes the price as well. Tours that reach protected coves like Turtle Cove often charge a bit more because fewer boats can go there.

Small Boat vs Large Catamaran Pricing

Our raft holds far fewer guests than a big catamaran. That affects the math a little, but it also means less time waiting for gear, less time in line to get in the water, and more space once you're snorkeling.

When you're asking how much is snorkeling in Maui, it helps to think beyond the sticker price. A slightly higher cost on a smaller boat can mean a better experience per dollar, especially if crowding bothers you.

How to Book Direct and Save on Maui Snorkel Tours

Booking through a reseller can sometimes add fees you don't see until checkout. When you
book directly with us, the price you see is the price tied to your tour, without a middleman adding a markup.

Direct booking also gives you a clearer line to our team if your plans change. You can
contact us with questions before you commit, which isn't always possible when you book through a third party site.

It also helps to book a few weeks ahead if your travel dates are set. Morning departures like ours tend to fill up during peak season, and waiting until the last minute can limit your options even if the price stays the same.

If your schedule is flexible, ask about weekday availability. Weekend mornings at Ma'alaea Harbor draw more visitors overall, so a weekday trip can sometimes mean a quieter dock and an easier check in process, even though the tour price itself doesn't change.

Is a Maui Snorkel Tour Worth the Price?

At $175 for adults and $159 for kids, our Molokini and Turtle Cove tour reflects a full morning on the water, a small group experience, gear and food included, and access to Turtle Cove, a spot large catamarans can't reach.

So how much is snorkeling in Maui really worth to you? If you want more time in the water and less time waiting around a crowded boat, that's worth factoring into your decision.

We've built our pricing to be transparent from the start. What you see on our site is what you'll pay, and you'll know exactly what that price includes before you ever step onto
Reef Explorer.
